With the hot weather already making its mark, literally, on us humans – spare a thought for your beloved feline friend this summertime!
Take note and follow these simple steps to keep your cat cool whilst under the hot sun.
Water and shade
It sounds obvious, but cats are even more susceptible to fatal heatstroke than humans! If you see your cat out in the hot sun, be sure to provide some shade using an umbrella, or even move your cat into a cooler part of the garden – making sure there is also fresh water available throughout the day. Even put some ice in the water to keep it cooler for longer!
Watch for these possible symptoms of overheating:
- Heavy panting
- Dry or bright red gums
- Wobbly legs
More fleas, ticks and mosquitoes in the summer. Keep them away!
Flying pests thrive in summer conditions meaning our pets are at greater risk of being harmed. They carry tapeworms, heartworms, and diseases such as Lyme or Bartonella that can put your pet at risk. Be sure to ask your vet for the appropriate medical advice to keep your feline friend pest-free.
Another simple one, but it could literally save your cats life! Sometimes it can become unbearable for cats to be indoors, especially if you live in a flat with little to no outside space. Make sure you have windows open where and when possible to give your cat the fresh air they need to stay fit and healthy.
Make sure you share this post with your fellow feline lovers and make sure all our beloved cats stay safe this summer!
